When God Draws You Away: The Purpose of Divine Separation by stella ashworth
What I find deeply concerning is that many Christians do not understand what it means when God calls us to come out from among them and be set apart. Nor do they recognize why He sometimes separates us, drawing us away from the noise, the crowds, and even familiar comforts, to be alone with Him.
Yet many fear this place of solitude. They resist the quiet, the stillness, the stripping away of distractions. But how can we truly know God if we are unwilling to stand before Him alone?
For one day, each of us will do exactly that, stand before Him, with nothing else to lean on.
Throughout Scripture, God often calls His people into separation before revealing Himself more deeply.
Consider Elijah. After the fire fell and the prophets of Baal were defeated, God did not meet him in the wind, the earthquake, or the fire, but in a still, small voice. Elijah had to be alone, removed from the chaos, to hear God clearly and receive direction (1 Kings 19).
And Jacob, he was left alone, and there he wrestled with God through the night. It was in that place of isolation that he was changed, renamed, and blessed (Genesis 32:24-28).
God does not call us away to harm us, but to transform us. Separation is not rejection, it is preparation. It is where identity is refined, where faith is strengthened, and where we encounter God without distraction.
We are not called to blend in with the world, but to be set apart (2 Corinthians 6:17). And often, that calling begins in the quiet place, alone with Him.
So do not fear the place where God separates you. Do not resist the moments when He draws you aside. There is purpose in it. There is growth in it. And there is a deeper revelation of Him waiting for you there.
What feels like isolation is often invitation, an invitation to know Him more, to hear Him clearly, and to become who He has truly called you to be.
